The goal may still be right. The process might not be.
In the previous Journal Entry Your Safeguard Could Become Your Saboteur we discussed how the habit of hypervigilance can be detrimental to allowing what you’ve worked for to be fully received. It’s an old habit of having to push, hustle, grind, monitor, watch, and hold everything together to keep things moving forward. And that habit is rooted in protecting what you’ve built, but when it is applied excessively it can be detrimental to the very thing you built. It can be a vicious cycle as the next step, once you’ve “smother mothered” the incoming results almost to death you then start the push, hustle, grind, … you know how this goes.
Today, I see, well, I want to say you smashed the pattern. But that’s not entirely true. What you’ve done is pause long enough to look at where you are, what you’re receiving, and where you might be about to put the hypervigilance pattern back on rinse and repeat.
The feeling has now become, if I have to bust a gut to get what I want, then feel like I am always hovering over it to keep it safe, is this really what I want?
Over the next few days I see you returning to the place in yourself where this all started. This desire to push forward and uplevel your life, particularly around all things Pentacles – money, career, business, property, residence, and health. You moved in this direction to improve your life and bring in new and good things, but I feel the question has become, at what cost? And now that it’s beginning to happen for me, is this still how I want to get there?
Some time for review will be helpful, but don’t fall into some big soul searching journey where you’re looking for a deep epiphany or the Holy Grail. This is simply a time to have a look at your compass settings and check your direction.
Before re-orienting yourself a bit of a question and answer session will be helpful.
Q: do I still want to improve my health with an exercise regime?
A: yes
Q: do I have 3 hours per week to do it?
A: no
Q: how can I achieve a good result without creating so much pressure I end up quitting?
A: focus on consistency within a time commitment you can actually sustain
This conversation with yourself is going to be revealing. It will transform how you do things, as well as reset your goals and priorities. The popular adage “the squeaky wheel gets oiled” is true if you’re a wheel. The discussion with yourself is the oil. Just because a thought is loud doesn’t mean it deserves the most action. The oil for the thought is to listen to it and ask some questions with a mind to either change the direction, improve the process to get there, or let go of pursuing it altogether.
Your Soul Expression card today is asking you to do things your way. And, in a way that gets things done but creates balance in your life. This means allocating enough attention and effort to move you in the direction you desire, without creating a life that feels impossible to maintain.
The Context card is Wheel of Fortune, and I’ve just spoken about squeaky wheels 😉
The Wheel of Fortune isn’t randomly spinning and throwing out bits of good and bad luck indiscriminately. It turns in response to both the direction you’ve chosen and the process you’ve used to move towards it. Change either one, and the wheel begins turning differently.
As I look across the spread, the message really couldn’t be any clearer.
Death isn’t asking you to abandon the goal. It’s asking you to change the way you go about it.
Temperance is asking you to create a process that brings more balance into your life.
Six of Pentacles is showing what happens when your effort and what you receive begin to feel more equal.
Wheel of Fortune reminds you that when both the direction and the process change, the outcomes begin to change too.
Have the discussion with yourself.
You got this.
Enough said.

🛣️ Rest Area, 400 Metres Ahead
The next few days are an opportunity to take a beat and switch off autopilot before continuing down the same path. If something has started to feel harder than it needs to be, don’t immediately assume you need to push more. Review both the direction you’re heading and the way you’re getting there. A few thoughtful adjustments now can create a more balanced, sustainable way forward, without asking you to give up the goal you’ve been working towards. If that is still your goal.

Review the direction.
Refine the process.
Then keep moving.

I have been feeling moments of this in recent weeks where I know particular things are testing what feels right and where I am falling to other peoples wants of me.
Thank you for sharing this, Nicola. I think you’ve identified something many people experience but don’t always recognise. Life has a way of presenting these little moments that quietly ask, “Is this really true for you?” The more we notice them, the easier it becomes to choose from what feels right, rather than from what feels expected.
